The Duke Colosseum Team League Season 1

Ok so this will be the official information thread for DCTL Season 1.  And will serve as the update log for the progress and development of this introductory season.

6/20/2012:

We now have 8 teams in the team pool.  The format will be 2 pools, Pool A and Pool B, with the Top 2 teams from each pool advancing to the semifinals.  After the first three weeks the pools will be switched up, the First and Last seed from each pool will trade between the other pools.  So Seed 1 and Seed 4 from Pool A will go to Pool B, and vice versa to change things up.

Example Schedule:

Wednesday 7/11/12

Pool A
Team 1 vs Team 2
Team 3 vs Team 4

Pool B
Team 1 vs Team 2
Team 3 vs Team 4

Wednesday 7/18/12

Pool A
Team 1 vs Team 3
Team 2 vs Team 4

Pool B
Team 1 vs Team 3
Team 2 vs Team 4

And etc..

Week 1: 6/27/12
Week 2: 7/11/12
Week 3: 7/18/12
Week 4: 7/25/12
Week 5: 8/1/12
Week 6: 8/8/12
Semis and Finals: 8/15/12

And as for the single players who signed up without a team, I will try to most fairly match players, so that I'm not matching a silver and a gold together, when there is a diamond or master player looking for a team.  I will try to balance things out.

Casters for this will be myself and ProwalA, who will be serving as the official gamemaker for DCTL.

The map pool will be the standard 2v2 Map Pool.  The first map will be randomly selected, and the losing team of each match will be able to pick the next map.  Each set will be Bo3.  In the event of a set tie between teams, match record will be taken into consideration.

As for now there are no prizes, but I will be trying to make something happen for our esteemed players.  And as always, matches will be stream at www.twitch.tv/dukemumford

The Duke sponsors a Tournament challenge

So here's the deal, I'm looking to become a pro-caster and YouTuber but unfortunately we live in a world where there are plenty of those.  So I'm putting out a challenge for everyone.

How to Make Incremental, Sustainable Progress at Starcraft

This is an article my friend wrote on my personal blog about Starcraft, and it seemed more fitting for it to be here instead of there.  I hope you guys enjoy it!

MNA matchups 5/14/12

Hello everyone! I have decided on this week's matchups for MNA as well as the special event.

Silver Match:
Sake (Sam Waterfield) vs JimmyDaBomb (Joe Russo)

Gold Match:
TheNeffrey (Neffrey Littlefield) vs TwoOhOne (Anton Schaefer)

Platinum Match:
ProwalA (Praveen Anuradha Walaliyadda) vs gameinn (Thomas Orlan Ferris)

Masters Match:
CakeSaucE (Benjamin Hugh Findlay) vs HTea (Brent Holmes)

And lastly the special event. We're going to do something unique and play a team FFA of Macro-Micro. Macro-Micro for those unfamiliar is a team game where one player macros while the other micros. This is how I would like to do it. I want four teams, each team having a high level player and lower level player, and each player within a team can decide to be the macro or the micro. If you are interested in participating the special event, you can sign up with a buddy or simply just volunteer to be assigned with a random player. And if you've never played Macro-Micro I highly suggest you do just to familiarize yourself with the game. Good luck everybody!

USL Weekly #6 (Gold - Plat) Sign Ups!

Hello everyone. This week's tournament is Gold-Plat, please make sure and sign up for the tournament before 6:00 on Wednesday night. If you are going to be a little late to the tournament, it should be fine as long as you contact ME (yummy.897 or Robert Gilmore on facebook) before the tournament begins. If you have any Gold-Plat friends that don't know about the tournament, tell them please! We want as big of a turn out as we can get.

Sign up page:
http://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/wfrhkaah53

General Rules/Information:
We will start at 7:00 pm on Wednesday night, the 9th of May. Please meet in the chat channel "Utah Starcraft League" on StarCraft 2 before/around that time. You will have about a 15 minute grace period to arrive in the chat channel. If you are not online and in the chat channel after 15 minutes, you will be removed from the bracket, giving your opponent a walkover.

Map Pool:
MLG Metalopolis, MLG Shakuras Plateau, MLG Tal'darim Altar, MLG Antiga Shipyard, Daybreak LE, Korhal Compound LE, Cloud Kingdom LE, Ohana LE. You may only use the chosen map ONCE per round, but the same map may be used in different rounds. If the round is a bo3, the loser of the previous match will choose the next map out of the map pool.

First map of each round
Ro16: MLG Metal
Ro8: MLG Antiga Shipyard
Semi's: Ohana LE
Finals: Daybreak LE

Brackets:
The brackets will be generated by me a few minutes after we start (around 7:05), so just relax in the chat channel until that time, and I will post them into the chat as soon as I finish them.

I would love to get more people to help me run this event weekly, so if you would like to help out Utah esports, let me know by commenting on this post. I am more than happy to have guest castors on the stream whenever you would like, so just let me know.

Stream:

We will cast as many games as possible, via my stream (www.twitch.tv/yummysc). If you would like your matches to be casted, you may contact me by either StarCraft or facebook sometime before the tournament begins, but I will be casting/streaming whoever asks first.

PM me if you have any further questions

Monday Night Arena

Info people!

Introductions

Hello everyone!  I am the Duke, and if you are reading this it's because you are at least a little interested in Starcraft, or you like blogging, or reading blogs.  Anyway, this is the official blog for the Utah Starcraft League!

So what is USL?  Well, it's a place for Utah players to gather, hang out, play, watch and do everything Starcraft.  USL is a new entity that myself and yummy have worked together to create to sponsor events, tourneys, podcasts and most importantly the players.  We do so through many devices.  The first is the Monday Night Arena.

The Monday Night Arena, or MNA, is a weekly fight night featuring Bo3 exhibition matches between evenly matched players, and at the end of every night there is a special event such as a Team FFA or something to that effect.

There is also the Weekly Bracket Tournament which is usually league based, such as bronze-silver tournament or a masters tournament, featuring Bo3 matches to find one winner who can stand above the rest.

In the coming weeks there will also be more events, check here as well as our Facebook group and Twitter page for updates.

So why do all of this?  Why have a blog and all these events?  Because I believe in eSports and the community effects of Starcraft and gaming, and I want to bring together all sorts of players who have common interests.  By creating this site it helps us to get information to you guys who may not be on our Facebook page or whatever.  So I hope you guys find this enlightening.  You will see posts from myself, yummy and probably others.  If you have an event that you would like featured please email me at thedukestarcraft@gmail.com and I will work with you!

Thanks!
